According to the latest report on the Ingolstadt-based automaker?s dealings, Audi is planning a hardcore version for its base sedan ? the RS3, tipped to arrive in North America as a 2018 model year.
The rumor concerning the creation of the RS3 Sedan for the United States market has been doing the rounds for quite some time and it now has caught wind ? according to the report there are more than one sources (which of course remained anonymous) that were present at the Audi Summit for Audi of America employees and then spilled the beans on the RS3 Sedan coming to life as a 2018 model year for North America. We?re going to treat this rumor as a definite maybe since Audi itself has been hinting at the possibility ever since they delivered the hot A3 clubsport quattro almost two years to date as a possible preview for the RS3 Sedan.
We?re not going to hold our breath for the concept?s massive 525 horsepower (386 kilowatts) output, but we can imagine the powertrain on the RS3 Sedan churning out in excess of 400 hp (298 kW) thanks to the well known turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine. All that oomph would go down to the quattro all wheel drive system via a seven-speed S tronic transmission. The model should also sport all the nice upgrades introduced via the A3 Sedan refresh ? including the optional Audi Virtual Cockpit ? and could also be treated to unique bucket seats. With US pricing for the 2016 Audi S3 Sedan kicking off at $42,500, estimates point towards the $55,000 ? $60,000 for the 2018 RS3 Sedan.
