Hi new to the group, just bought 2010 well loved s3 and intend to do the same.
Previous owner changed original radio/cd for a junsun mm system.
It is not a user friendly piece of kit, manual is rubbish and struggling to get my head round basics like the sat nav, can’t even work out howto connect phone via bluetooth etc.
Was this car ever fitted with a head unit incorporating satnav. If so I’d try and locate one and have fitted to keep it all standard Audi. If not has anyone got a recommendation for a good replacement that is easy to uses and set up like you’d expect in most modern cars standard issue head units.
thanks

sounds like fun mod to work on. the older gens seems to allow aftermarket units to be fitted. so you'll have a ton of options to just replace that unit and use any other model you want.

just search for the top brands like alpine, Kenwood, sony, pioneer, etc.

i personally like any unit that has all the features and if the screen is large. i mean above 7 inches. i think alpine might have a 9inch screen as well. but look for the extra features that you want.

be wary with going to local shops for advice, as those guys will only push what they can sell and have in stock at that store.. i usually go look on youtube videos for inspiration.

do your own research first. also look at sema videos. they have the newest products that are coming out.

your goal:
see whats new.
learn on your own.
go to stores to physically touch, play, and listen to the units your interested in.
once you figure it out. learn how to install a head unit into your car yourself. its very easy now a days with plug and play harnesses and video instructions online.

bare minimum equipment you need;
new head unit.
pnp harness to install.
face plate for dash install.

that's really it. everything should come in the box of the head unit. and you'll need to just have tools but that's on you to learn what you need.
dont skimp out on the top three items as its gonna make your life much easier if you buy the best.

here is a video on how to install a head unit. look at this first.
